48 Hour Guide for Restaurants and Bars - where to eat and drink in Chicago.
Chicago is an ultimate destination in the USA for foodies, with iconic renowned dishes such as deep dish pizza, Chicago hot dogs, popcorn and Italian beef sandwiches. I did a lot of research to make sure I ate in some of the best restaurants in Chicago before I arrived and I ended up having a great few days of food and drink, trying some of Chicago's famous food and dishes.
Here are some of my favourite places to eat and drink in Chicago over 48 hours:
1. Giordano's
If you're wondering where to eat deep dish pizza in Chicago, then here is the place to go! They have multiple restaurants across Chicago and the pizza is something else. You have to try their 'Famous Stuffed Deep Dish Pizza', but bear in mind it's MASSIVE. I was eating by myself so got an 'Individual 6" Deep Dish' where you can select to up to 4 ingredients. If you're with a group of people definitely get one of the larger pizzas as they place them on a stand in the middle of the table, I was shocked to see how big they were. Their cocktails were also great, my favourite being their 'Frozen Chilli Mango Margarita'.
2. White Palace Grill
The best breakfast in Chicago! White Palace Grill is an old school American Diner style restaurant with an extensive menu of everything you could ever want for breakfast. There's everything from omelettes, to breakfast skillets, sandwiches and burgers.
It's always busy and what's more is that it's open 24 hours, so if you fancy pancakes after a night on the town, or some late afternoon chicken and waffles, this is the place to go. The food choices are great, the service is so friendly and I loved the American diner decor inside. The food is delicious and the portions are BIG!
3. Garrett Popcorn
I never thought I'd find myself eating the combination that is cheddar cheese and caramel popcorn, but here I was in Chicago doing just that. Garrett Popcorn is an infamous chain of popcorn shops in Chicago offering their 'Garrett Mix' popcorn to locals and tourists alike. You have to try it whilst you're there because it's actually pretty good and something to tick off on your Chicago bucketlist. If you aren't interested in their Garrett Mix you can try flavours like buffalo ranch, chocolate strawberry, nut caramel crisp or butter.
4. McDonald's Headquarters
I love a McDonald's but can't say it's a place I'd usually recommend to go whilst on holiday. However... you may or may not know that McDonald's HQ is in Chicago and with that, they have a restaurant attached to their 'Hamburger University' building (that anyone can go to), where you can try McDonald's foods from across the world. They change what they offer but I went there you could try the 'Aussie Angus Burger' from Australia, the 'Kung Pao Double Crispy Chicken' from China, a 'Mango McFlurry' from Malaysia, 'Apple Fritter Mini Donut' from Canada and 'White Chocolate McPops' from Spain. Something different to try!
The address is 110 N Carpenter St, Chicago, IL 60607
5. CloudBar at 360 Chicago
Fancy seeing Chicago from the clouds? Visit the 94th floor of the John Hancock Centre where you can sip a glass of champagne overlooking the whole of Chicago and Lake Michigan. You have to buy a 'general admission' ticket to the observation deck, but you can spend up there as long as you want and even experience TILT (a glass window that tilts you over the city whilst you hold on), you might need a drink after!
